Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is a widely used treatment for men with symptomatic hypogonadism (when the body’s sex glands produce little or no hormones). The benefits seen with TRT, such as increased libido and energy level, beneficial effects on bone density, strength and muscle as well as cardio protective effects, have been well-documented.

There are also studies that suggest TRT may lower heart risk. One recent study of 44,000 men with low testosterone levels found men who used TRT to treat symptoms of low testosterone levels had a 33% lower risk of heart attacks and stroke compared to those who did not receive any hormone therapy.

Soon after beginning hormone treatment, you will likely notice a change in your libido. Quite rapidly, your genitals, will begin to grow and become even larger when you are aroused. Effects on sexual interest appear after 3 weeks plateauing at 6 weeks, with no further increments expected beyond. Changes in erections/ejaculations may require up to 6 months. Effects on quality of life manifest within 3–4 weeks, but maximum benefits take longer.
