What STI and HIV screening covers
Screening checks for infection whether or not you have symptoms. Most sexually transmitted infections cause no symptoms at all, which is why testing is the only reliable way to know your status. The tests included are decided with you at consultation, based on your history, the type of exposure and how much time has passed since it.

Results and timelines
Timing depends on the infection and how long ago the exposure happened. The following reflects how testing is generally handled, and Dr. Sujesh will confirm what applies to your case.
- The rapid HIV test is read at the clinic within 20 minutes of the sample being taken
- The HIV window period begins at day 28 — a 4th generation test can be done from that point
- A test taken before three months may not be conclusive, so a repeat test at three months is usually advised
- A negative rapid HIV result needs no confirmatory test; a positive result is confirmed by further testing
- Laboratory results for the wider panel are explained to you at follow-up, with treatment started where needed
